The Artists in Residence and Writers in Residence programme has been set up to enable a talented artist, usually a painter or sculptor to spend time working at the IMOS Foundation studio on Romney Marsh in England.
Accommodation is in agreeable surroundings in the grounds of a private house and is independent. Successful applicants are encouraged to donate a work chosen by the sponsor and created during their period of residence to the growing IMOS Foundation collection.
Mankind has consistently extended the boundaries of experience. Artists are amongst the foremost players. Their contribution lies in their artistic endeavours and the fact that art has moral force in society. In many ways artists help to increase tolerance and foster understanding between different people. This in turn diminishes fear and ignorance that is responsible as ever for much suffering.
Work done under the auspices of the IMOS Foundation will therefore be expected to emphasise the commonality of human experience while celebrating the diversity of everyday life across the globe. Participants will be able to contribute to this general process of enrichment in the sharing of their work and in its overall development.
